Indigenous Australian Committee Charter

Section 1 - Purpose

(1) The Indigenous Australian Committee monitors the achievements of the Indigenous Australian strategy, and implementation and performance of the University in respect to outcomes and initiatives for Indigenous Australians.

Section 2 - Accountability

(2) Indigenous Australian Committee is a governance committee accountable to QUT Council.

Section 3 - Responsibilities

(3) The Indigenous Australian Committee undertakes the following responsibilities:

  • Monitoring and approval of the Indigenous Australian Strategy including community engagement, government reporting and Indigenous Student Success Program funding outcomes, including receiving reports from the Indigenous Student Success Program Advisory Group.
  • Monitors progress against Indigenous Australian Key Performance Indicators for staff and students.
  • Monitors and receives reports on student support for learning and teaching provided by the Oodgeroo Unit and the Learning and Teaching Unit.
  • Monitors and receives reports on research and education from the Carumba Institute.

Section 4 - Delegations

(4) The Indigenous Australian Committee has delegated responsibility from QUT Council to approve the Indigenous Australian Strategy.

Section 5 - Membership

(5) Membership categories:

  • An Indigenous Australian member of QUT Council as Chair;
  • Chancellor ex officio;
  • Vice-Chancellor ex officio;
  • Three external members with relevant expertise nominated by QUT Council, at least one of whom will be an Indigenous Australian.

Section 6 - Attendance

(6) The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous Australians) is the committee executive sponsor, and the following officers are attendees:

  • Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous Australians);
  • Provost;
  • Vice-President (Finance) and Chief Financial Officer.

Section 7 - Meeting frequency

(7) The Indigenous Australian Committee will meet at least four times per year.

Section 8 - Reporting and communication

(8) Following each meeting, the Indigenous Australian Committee reports to the next meeting of QUT Council. The Indigenous Australian Committee receives reports from the Indigenous Student Success Program Advisory Group.

Section 9 - Procedures

(9) Indigenous Australian Committee is established in accordance with the Committee Governance Policy (Section 5) and operates in accordance with Council Procedure 1 - Committee Operations.

Section 10 - Secretariat

(10) A nominee of the Vice-President (Administration) and University Registrar is secretary.
